Cats
Cats are also popular pets. Domestic
cats and household cats are often tame. There are many cat
breeds and they not only look different but they also require
different types and levels of care. Everyday kittens are born
and abandoned. So, before you get a cat, make sure you know
what you are getting yourself into.
Owning a cat
Most cats are self sufficient. The cat
families are predators and can usually hunt for themselves.
However the more domesticated the cats are, the less likely
they will hunt for themselves. Most cats require little from
the cat owners other than food, shelter and litter box. However
domestic cats have evolved to require more attention from cat
owners such as regular stroking, attention and care. Unlike
dogs, cats are more happy alone and appear smarter.
Cat Owners' Commitment
|

|
Although,
owning a cat seems easier than owning dog,
cat owners do have responsibilities to the cat.
If you get the cat as a kitten, the cat may
live 15-20 years or longer. A vast number of
cat owners obtain kittens because they are cute
but when the kittens grow up, the owners do not
want the cats long term and turn them into cat
shelters and animal rescue.

Consider how having a cat or cats will
impact your everyday life and are you prepared to change the
litter box daily. Cat litter can be very stinky so you must be
prepared to deal with that on a regular basis. Cats also have
claws and you must be prepared to deal with some scratches on
your furniture should your cat make them. Some cats are trained
but accidents may occur and you should be prepared and not be
upset or angry at the cat. In some places, cats are declawed.
However, this shortens the life of the cat and it is not
recommended. Declawed cats must live indoor and they are much
less self sufficient than cats with claws or outdoor cats.
